In Liverpool earlier I requested an Uber Pool journey, as it was similar to the bus price and involved less walking. This is cheaper than a standard Uber on the basis that they might combine your journey with another customer.

The first driver accepted and cancelled, and the second driver accepted but berated me for choosing it (in the end I had the journey by myself). I'm sympathetic if they get a lower fare but is that the rough/smooth of doing private hire?

I started using it recently and have chatted to a couple of drivers about it. I am a fan, one of the drivers liked it, while the other didn't. I think the issue for some drivers is that its one pool of work so they can't opt out of the new service. The average 30% discount on private Uber price is good for drivers if they get a second (and certainly 3rd) customer but really bad if they don't. They may get a run of single person journeys and feel ripped off but the discount level takes that into consideration and it should balance out over a few days. I rather like it because its a nice middle ground between a bus and normal taxis.

I took Uber Pool in Warsaw last year. More than doubled my journey time as the driver picked up two additional passengers on the way who were both dropped off before me.

It's put me off it to be honest.

I imagine for the drivers it's really dependent on how often they get additional passengers from it. Any berating would be a quick one star from me.

That's why I don't bother - Journey time.
