Uber Omio seat change

Has anyone been able to self-change seat reservations for Uber (Omio) bookings? Usually I can only select the type of seat (normal/table, aisle/window, forward/backward facing) and then a free one gets randomly allocated. But Avanti have a tool to modify a booking which should allow seat selection as well. It would require Omio's email for bookings, does anyone have it/would this even be possible?

Why are you attempting to modify a car parking booking?

It does no such thing - and Avanti does not have access to bookings made by third parties.

Getting a seat allocated for car parking, now that would be something...

Back on topic, Omio told me that in very clear terms to FO as Avanti do not offer reserved seating and I should take any available seat on board. When pressed, they even went as far as to claim that seats may get assigned during booking but they are not guaranteed to remain reserved. And if I don't like their policy I should book elsewhere. Clearly ther offshore support are very knowledgeable.

Anyone had better luck, I thought I remembered reading here that support could help, but given Uber's atrocious service in general maybe it's too much to hope for?

This simply isn't how the reservations system works, so no it's not possible.

In theory, an operator could amend a reservation using the 8 character code written on E-Tickets (e.g. AA123456), but this is only supposed to be used when a train type changes in the timetable (a "set swap").

This doesn't automatically change the seat information elsewhere in retail systems, such as in booking details on the retailer site, the E-Tickets, paper tickets, etc., hence why it shouldn't ever be used other than these circumstances, and can be the cause of scenarios where two people appear to have been double-booked the same seat.

The original retailer could, in theory, change the reserved seat, but many won't have tools for this so it will simply not be possible for frontline staff to do.

The customer support for the forum's ticketing site would usually just book a new seat instead as it's much easier than trying to amend your existing seat.

I would like us to offer the option to amend your existing seat in the future, though!

What are you on about?

@trient's link ("have a tool to modify a booking") is about managing an NCP car park booking rather than anything ticketing related, as given away by the huge NCP logo in the corner of the screen.

This is indeed absolute nonsense. You can go back and tell them that their claims are incorrect, and ask them to escalate it to someone who understands UK railway ticketing.

I understand people use Uber for cashback, which is fine, but if you want a seat selector, and UK-based customer support by knowledgeable people (many of whom happen to be forum members), and not have to deal with clueless offshore customer support agents, then your best bet is to use the forum's ticketing site.

Right - sorry for that, this was the link I quickly retrieved when I posted. I swear I saw this feature (for trains!) on Avanti's website buried deep down somewhere before, but maybe it was indeed the NCP parking and they just don't offer it at all (seemed like a basic ask!).

Fair enough, the forum's ticketing service looks great and equally I totally abhor Uber/Omio's service and UX; but at a couple hundred quid a return ticket it's really hard to snub the Uber 20(+)% off.
