Tyre flats on 444 and 450 units

Hallo All

As i'm in the advantageous posistion of having a flat that overlooks Eastleigh East Yard!. I get to see and 'Hear' a lot of the trains passing.
I have noticed that the 444 and 450 Desiro's seem to have a major problem, with the tell tale, 'Bang Bang Bang' of flats on the wheel tyres!!

If it was just on the odd one or two units. I guess it would be almost acceptable. However. I reckon it affects about 85 to 90% of the fleet, most of the time!

Is this some kind of ongoing problem, or design flaw????

It's kind of understandable at this time of year what with adhesion problems courtesy of leaf fall! The Voyager fleet is also particularly bad at the moment!

Reading another forum today. SWT are testing out a modifed boggie on a 450 unit.

Its because of the poor adhesion making the wheels flat when the train slides. Ive worked lots of 450s and 455s lately with wheel flats, as mentioned ive also heard alot of voyagers with the same thing.

Must say I haven't noticed any major wheelflats of trains passing through Swaythling, perhaps due to the higher speed of the trains?

I commute most days on SWT, there's certainly plenty of units with wheelflats about although nowhere near 90% of the fleet.
