Twyford - Taunton Day Return

Hello,

I'm making a day trip to Taunton on Friday 13th hoping to leave at 0917 (arriving Taunton 1053). I want flexibility in the train I return on. I have a Zone 1-4 annual season ticket.

If I understand the rules correctly could I use the following combination of tickets to travel and not have to use trains that stop at the splits?

BZ4 - Bedwyn CDR £18
Bedwyn - Pewsey CDR £5.4
Pewsey - Westbury CDR £7.8
Westbury - Castle Cary CDR £8.9
Castle Cary - Taunton CDR £8.7

Total £48.8

If I get the following combination I obviously have to travel via the Berks & Hants but are there any services I couldn't use?

Any advice on better splits (and what prints out I should take with me to avoid arguments!)

If your journey is from London, that's fine.

It's not valid if your journey is from Twyford.

It doesn't have to stop at those stations as the London Z1-4 ticket is a season

If the journey is from a station covered by his Season, then condition 19c applies, so none of the train doesn't need to call anywhere.

Confusingly the title conflicts with the message content, so clarification has been sought.

I'm travelling from Twyford but was wondering if I could use the above combination and start/finish short? From what I've read above I think the answer is probably no.

Any tips for splits that could make a decent saving on the £72.50 Off Peak Return fare?

Correct, as you are not using your Season ticket for part of the journey.

One option would be to travel into London (£9.70 TWY-BZ4 CDR), this would of course add to the journey time.

Another obvious split is:
Twyford - Didcot CDR £5.90 (Gold Card)
Didcot - Bristol Parkway CDR £22.60
Bristol Parkway - Taunton CDR £12.50
Total £41

You must use trains which call at Didcot, which isn't a big limitation - you might even be better off changing there. Travelling this route is slightly slower but not hugely so (and trains are more frequent, even allowing for Didcot).

NB I've chosen Parkway; the tickets are the same price if you use Temple Meads and both are valid either way.
