Twyford platform length

On the 1850 London Paddington to Didcot Parkway, I just saw several people alighting from Coach 12 at Twyford, despite the announcement saying that the doors would only open in Coaches 1-8. Has Twyford really had its platforms extended to accommodate 12 coaches, and, if so, then why?

Platforms 1-3 extended in 2018. Why? - to allow long trains to call without the hassles of selective door opening (such as over-carrying people who don't realise or don't make it to the correct door in time).

Thanks. You’d think the train software would have caught up by now. I wouldn’t have expected Twyford’s platforms to be longer than Maidenhead’s or Didcot Parkway’s, but there we go.

Is it possible for it to cope with platforms of differing lengths though? If platforms 1-3 were extended, that leaves platform 4 (which is constrained by the Henley junction) as 8 (IIRC).

The automated announcements are presumably designed to cater for the shortest platform option at any given station, thereby removing the risk of passengers being unable to alight in the event of arriving (expectedly or otherwise) at that platform? There is no way for ‘Digital Doris’ to know in advance which platform the train will arrive at, only what the next calling point is.
