The passenger train is a DR1A DMU. The locomotive is a VL80.

Eight people were injured when a passenger train collided with an electric locomotive at a railway station in Lviv on Oct. 8, Ukrainian authorities and local media reported.

The diesel-powered passenger train, traveling from Lviv to Sokal, collided with the locomotive while departing Pidzamche station, Ukrainian state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia said.

The railway operator initially reported that the passenger train's driver suffered a leg injury and four passengers required medical attention. The crew of the electric locomotive was unharmed.

The number of injured later rose to eight, according to Tetiana Andreieva, spokesperson for the Lviv Regional Emergency Medical Care Center, who spoke to Suspilne. Five people were hospitalized, while three received treatment at the scene.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said emergency crews were working to free the passenger train's driver, who had become trapped inside the cab following the collision.

Emergency responders were also assisting injured passengers at the scene.

Ukrzaliznytsia said railway specialists and emergency services were investigating the circumstances of the collision.

The cause of the crash has not yet been established.
