Two tone horns

I think it's 3. Look just above the buffer beam on a MK4 DVT. There's a pentagon with 3 holes in it.

F minor 1st Inversion Ab-C-F*
(*Not allowing for the Doppler effect which wil raise the pitch slightly on approach - would have to hear it after it passes to see how much it drops. Might be E minor G-B-E when static).
Low tone is the bottom note.

ASLEF have the position of using both tones at W boards, as do most of the old boy drivers. (Not an old boy, but use both as I was told to by the grizzled old boy that trained me)

Same here, said old boy picked me up at the first whistle board when I first started my train handling and he put me straight. This is allowed by the fact that the rule book clearly states "when the driver deems necessary" as one of the circumstances to use the horn (e.g. when passing the roster clerks house is fine) When the aslef circular came out it merely added extra ammunition should I ever be criticised on it, not that iI' imagine ever being challenged on such a thing.

In the early days the cl 306 had air whistles, not unknown to arrive at Liv St and there was a cross between an air leak and a weesey whistle

RSSB have nothing to do with NIR or IÉ.

Interestingly IE are an RSSB associate while NIR have no RSSB involvement
