Warrington BQ - Acton Bridge

Burnley Mancr Rd - Rose Grove

Drem - Dunbar

Salwick - Poulton-le-Fylde

Kirkham & Wesham is between Salwick and Poulton-le-Fylde BTW.

deighton-brighouse is eventually done after reversal at huddersfield

I suspect not, it did have one many years ago though.:D What about Sanquar-Thornhill? Only the Duke of Buccleugh may join or alight there all the same. :D

Must be direct passenger trains between th etwo, so Barnetby-ulceby etc dont count, you need to go through lincoln to do hykeham-saxilby dont you? Edinburgh Park-Brunstane again npo direct passenger service

Does weekend engineering work count <D

Hykeham - Saxilby can be done without reversing at Lincoln, there is a curve between the Newark and Gainsborough lines at Boutham. I think it is all that is left of the avoiding line.

Edinburgh Park - Brunstane can be done when engineering work is on. But have a look at your timetable every day the 0533 Edinburgh - Dundee services does it to keep route knowledge up for XC drivers. (It does not stop at Haymarket as a result)

Mate: weekend engineering work does not count. The services mentioned must actually stop at the first station in order for it to kind of 'fit in' with what I getting at. Does the curve at libncoln have a scheedueled passenger service?

If you mean the Westbury/Exeter semi-fasts, I thought they went from Hungerford to Perswy, straight through Bedwyn. Will dig out my timetable to make sure.

What's the question?

If it's 'two adjacent stations on the same line with no direct service' (which appears to be how it was interpreted for Chathill-Berwick to come up), we've had that before, and it is tricky because it depends how you define 'on the same line'. (See this post for an example of the sort of queries that can crop up).

If it's 'two stations close together' then that raises the question of 'how close?' and if there is no requirement for them to be directly linked, then contenders could be very numerous depending on how close they can be to count as close. Are we talking about South Milford & Sherburn-in-Elmet type situations? (The sign saying you are entering Sherburn is actually just before the bridge you go under to reach the platforms at South Milford!)

At the moment I can't work out what the question is so I will hold off answering for now.

06:41 from Northampton to Crewe.

Theres no access to the up line platform for trains towards Northampton, so technically you could say Polesworth to Atherstone is an impossible journey <D

Personally, I'm interpreting it as any two adjacent stations on a direct route (i.e. with no need of reversal). so I'll add, Cannon Street - Waterloo East and Cannon Street - Blackfriars.

What if the only train that does it does reverse? Such as Patchway to Bristol Parkway; only one direct train in each direction, but it goes via Bristol Temple Meads!

I'd agree with that definition, except I'd rule out freight or stock movement only lines.

Hazel Grove to Chinley does have one service a day (Mon-Sat) at 06.07 operated by Northern. There is a return service at 08.03 operated by East Midlands Trains.

Other examples include

Gorton to Fairfield
Stalybridge to Guide Bridge*
Guide Bridge to Denton*
Denton to Reddish South*
Reddish South to Stockport*
Deansgate to Manchester United FG
Deansgate to Eccles
Heald Green to Styal (direct) services booked to reverse at Manchester Airport

I'm aware that some Hope Valley express services via Stockport call at Chinley, but I didn't think they also called at Hazel Grove.
