Two seasons, one trip.

This is for the fare experts:

Came across an odd pair of weekly's while working a train the other day and spoke to the passenger about validity. However, I would like to confirm what I said was correct.
I'm not going to discuss the tickets involved in an open thread, so would like one of the experts, Yorkie, Newcastle etc to contact me via PM.

Note train was Sussex Coast to London Bridge. Pass was going to London Bridge.

As a matter of interest and without wishing to know the details in your specific example what are the rules about 2 season tickets on one trip.

I am aware of someone also on a Southern route that has a season ticket to Clapham Junction, and a Travelcard from Clapham Junction which I think is a Zone 1 and 2 card.

This begs the question can you have this combination of tickets, and if you do can you go direct from East Croydon to London Bridge without going via Clapham Junction?

If you combine two season tickets (for which a PTE pass is not a season ticket, but a TfL Travelcard is) the train must stop at the boundary station where you change from one season ticket to the other.

Therefore (quick look at a map) the above combination would not be permitted other than if the train goes via, and stops at, any station in Zone 2, with that station on a Permitted Route from East Croydon (or whatever the origin is) to Clapham Junction. Which in this case AIUI it doesn't.

As Neil says, the train must stop at the station where you switch from one season ticket to another season ticket unless both season tickets are zonal.

If the season ticket is from x to Clapham Junction then it is only valid on permitted routes from x to Clapham Junction. If East Croydon is between x and Clapham Junction on the permitted route then that is allowed to travel from East Croydon to Clapham Junction (as you can use the ticket at any intermediate station); if it isn't then it isn't. But you have to go through Clapham Junction on a train that stops there, you can't go direct from East Croydon to London Bridge. If the season ticket is actually to London Zones 2-6 or 3-6 then it is valid at East Croydon regardless.

Just to expand on the above, a combination of something like Gatwick Airport - Zones 5-6 and a Zones 1-4 Travelcard Season would be valid on any train, as both are zonal tickets, but Gatwick Airport - Croydon Stations and Croydon Stations - London Terminals would only be valid on trains stopping at a member of Croydon Stations group if both tickets were seasons.

...I would like to confirm what I said was correct....

After our PM discussion, I can confirm this.

We're also in agreement with the respondents above that the train does indeed need to call (at the station where you change from one ticket to the next) where using 2 seasons (that aren't both zonal), so the combination wasn't valid on a non-stopping train.

Furthermore, even if the train had been a stopping train, the combination wasn't valid for travel by the route taken by the train in question anyway (ie, there was a gap between the tickets!).

Thanks for the answers. I wasn't asking for me as I have a single season. Sarahs question just reminded me of something someone told me they were doing but I have seen them on the East Croydon-London Bridge section which seemed wrong. So confirmed it is!
