Hi all.
I'm trying to identify two very diffrent television programmes broadcast around 1989/90 possibly on Channel 4. These were recorded to VHS around the same time as the 'locomotion' series was broadcast. As well as the two I will try to describe there was also broadcast the famous 'London to Birmingham' time-lapse 'Running to time' about the InterCity 225.
Just note, I am now at the point where I forgot what I walked into a room for and memories can be fickle.
The first short film comes from the continent somewhere. It was black and white with only orchestral music for sound. It features a young boy travelling by train. The only two shots I can recall is one of overhead cables shot from a moving train and the final scene where the boy walks up to a rail line, puts his ear to the track and having to heard anything he then proceeds to walk down the track with his dog.
A lot to go on I know!
Slightly easier is a film about the history of the railway made circa 70s 80s. It features the story of the road steam engine that was forgotten about outside a pub until the boiler blew up and demolished half the pub.
It also featured a quote from a fiery man who once bellowed 'All lines must pass through York!'
I think it also featured the flying Scotsman locomotive and a short shot of a old industrial narrow gauge railway.
If any of you manage to pick over those two carcasses and find a resault I'll be both surprised and thankful.
