Two more Irish GMs preserved

Reported in yesterday's RPSI members bulletin, the RPSI have recently officially purchased IÉ GM locos Nos. 134 (single cab 121 class) and 175 (141 class) for preservation. So between the RPSI and ITG there are now eight small GM locos in preservation - not bad!

Any chance of some railtours in 2013? 141 and 142 don't seem to have done much. 2003 since I last had one, tried for the farewell tour but nasty man in IE said no...



Yeah, crap phot but conveys some of the Limerick atmosphere. Can't beat it.

Limerick was great for GM action back in the day alright, I know 071s are the favourite of many but I always found the Small GMs had a sort of novelty factor to them, up till about five years ago or so you could get 071 or 201 haulage easy enough but for Small GMs you had to travel further to get.
I like the 071 sound but the 141 beat has a nice 'chug' of it so to speak.

It's been sometime since their last usage, the RPSI is working towards obtaining a lease for a suitable site to base them, once this is done 134, B141 and 175 will be moved there for work to start with a view to getting them fit for mainline operation again.

The ITG have the only currently working baby GM at present. It operates at DCDR which granted, isn't mainline.

Well I suppose it is the BCDR mainline... while CAFs work the 'branch' to Bangor...
