I have notices today that two class 319 units (319439 and 319445) both have TSO coaches with the same number - 71816. The coach 71816 should be in 319445 and the TSO coach in 319439 should be 71810. However the TSO in 319439 was cleaner than the rest of the unit.
Now I'm wondering are these units currently misformed, and which of these coaches has the wrong number ?

319439 : 77366 62929 71810 77367
319445 : 77378 62935 71816 77379

It is possible that 71816 has temporarily been placed into 319439
However, if you observed both on the same day then it is likely someone has modified the digits or they have become damaged on 71810
I would suggest inspecting 71810 on 319439 more closely, ideally comparing both sides
Some BREL built vehicles also have the coach number internally as well, so use this to check and confirm

I not sure how prevalent mis-numbering on NR is I know on the LUL Piccadilly line there is a unit or two with the sole bar markings for number 1 side/number 2 side and axle positions incorrectly labelled.

Not a problem if you know it is wrong. Most staff during my time had a least one team member who knew the correct notation.

A Class 318 unit ran around for several weeks without coach numbers on one vehicle after release from Glasgow Works many years ago
Apparently they had run out of number 7 digits

Just an update, having had a chance to see both sides of 319439 close up I can confirm that coach 71810 has the wrong number applied on one side. It would appear that this coach side has been re-vinyled recently as it is noticably cleaner (externally) than the rest of the unit.
