Twickenham & Distict MRC - new OO layout

Hello

Twickenham & District MRC are about to start building a large new OO layout. It will feature a "common fiddle yard" which will be able to serve several different "fronts" in OO/HO - British steam era / Modern Image / American / European.

The first front is likely to be a model of our local station - TWICKENHAM - as it was before it was re-built in its present style. This will also us to run both steam and EMUs.

This will be a very big ambitious project. We are still seeking prototype information , photos, plans etc. If anyone can help with information or would like to get involved in the project please contact us via the Club's website www.tdmrc.org.uk or email me teamyakima@hotmail.com

I keep meaning to pay a call on club night, as I only live in central Twickenham. I actually started a thread here:

Perhaps I met you there? I was the tall older fellow with longish greying hair who took an interest in the US layout complete with locomotive sounds.

Further to my post above, I have scanned your website, but can't actually find any reference to the clubhouse address.

Yes, I was there and yes I do remember you. I was Chairman at the time - now I'm the Hon. Treasurer.

Yes, you are correct - the address of our HQ is not on our website. Like many Clubs we don't openly advertise our exact address -i n this day and age we don't necessarily want all and sundry knowing where we meet.. We do ask anyone interested in joining to contact our Hon. Sec for details.

Our Library event was very successful - I lost my voice speaking to members of the public and potential members. we will repeat it this year - no date yet.

We will start work on the OO/HO "common fiddle yard" in a couple of weeks. It is hoped that eventually we will have two or three fronts on the go at the same time. We were going to have American HO as the first front but it now seems likely that it will be TWICKENHAM as it looked pre-modernisation.

Come on down any Friday and bring some stock to run - any scale/gauge - our multi gauge running track has 14 different gauges on it including such rarities as "TT" and "S"

I'll be at the Club Feb 27th and March 6th then I'm not down for a few weeks.

March 6th is a big night for those of us in the OO community within the Club as it's the last planning meeting before construction of the fiddle yard begins - try to make one of the next two weeks and I'll give you a personal " guided tour ".

I just thought I would post a big thank you here to the two Pauls and Andrew especially, plus of course the other club members who all contributed to a great welcome and showed me around the clubhouse last night!

To anybody who is "hovering" over the decision to give these guys a visit I would urge you to come along. There is a great atmosphere with members of all ages, and the club has big plans for the future, with a period Twickenham station featuring highly. There is also a vast reference library from which members may borrow, but chiefly everybody was having fun!

Now you can't beat that!

Just to update everyone about our new OO layout - we are collecting loads of info about TWICKENHAM station - mainly from the local library and the Bluebell Railway archive.

Current thinking is that the scenic section of the layout will be approximately 25 feet long plus hidden curves will make the layout about 33 x 10 in total.

We hope to start work on the fiddle yard baseboards in March.
