There is an unwritten rule of railway re-openings that demands that a route follows the exact route of the abandoned route.
Although, that is a *UK* Railways rule.
In the near future Scotland might not form part of the UK.
Wouldn't it be more useful to divert it after Hawick back toward the Bruder counties line and reopen all the way to the Ecml?
