TVM confusing with 18+ Oyster

My other half is now eligible for an 18+ Oyster which arrived today. It gives 30% off Travelcards, so we went to a London Overground TVM to buy one. We were presented with the screen as attached.

This has to be one of the most confusing screens ever. It turns out that the leftmost column contains full fare products, and the right column contains discounted products. If you choose a button in the left column you will not be prompted that you are overpaying!

Also, if your 18+ Oyster has 11 months until expiry, can you buy a discounted Annual Travelcard, knowing it will expire after 11 months, or do you have to pay more to get 11 discounted monthlies?

You will get a discounted Travelcard priced at the annual rate but only valid for 11 months. The price is capped at the annual rate so will not cost more than that.

Same as for child-rate Travelcards, etc.

I'll have a play with my Oyster card tomorrow which has a B&T discount to see if it'll sell me a discounted B&T pass at Forest Hill's TVM's. A LO clerk once told me to use the TVM or go to an Oyster Ticket Stop.

However that menu is terrible. Prices should be shown to the right of the ticket option.

Anything over 10 months and 12 days will be the full annual rate.
