TV intermittently losing signal

Hi guys, not sure how knowledgeable you lot are on TV's, but I thought it was worth asking..

Basically, I turned my TV on (for the first time today) about two hours ago, and it's been intermittently losing signal ever since, it's ok for about a minute, then the picture freezes and I get a no signal message, it returns after about a minute, then drops again.

Not had signal issues like this before, was fine yesterday, but the TV is 4 years old and heavily used.

The physical connection seems ok, and the aerial doesn't seem to have dropped. We had a power cut earlier (the TV was switched off at the time), could it be related to this?

My TV did the same for about 30 seconds at 02:30 last night, and it's never done it before, either.

Sods law the TV cuts out the instant Babestation starts to get juicy.

Seems ok now, signal returned about an hour ago, and hasn't dropped again yet.

There are possible problems with 4G mobile signal interfering with TVs, though I believe anyone thought at risk of this would have had a leaflet through the door or even a filter to plug into the aerial. More details on www.at800.tv.

My TV loses signal when I switch on my hairdryer which is plugged in next to the socket for the TV aerial cable - but this only happens on Channel 4!

I'm rather interested in TV broadcasting - I'm not a professional or anything, but I've picked up quite a bit of knowledge over the years.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with 4G unless you've had a leaflet. 4G interference trials are just that - trials - there are no *real* 4G operations on the frequencies that would cause problems for DTV quite yet (AFAIK, they haven't started) - well, if there are, they're not in Devon.

@maniacmartin: I would say poor quality cabling is rather likely the perpetrator there. Not much you can do about that unless you feel like rewiring your house on a whim

As for the OP's problem, I'm not sure. Could have been some unusually good signal conditions caused by the heat (good signal = transmitters from further afield start interfering), or a number of other things. Let us know if it reoccurs, and see if you can spot any patterns.

I should add for completeness that it isn't just my hairdryer but anything that draws high amounts of power when switched on, that causes the issue. It's just that the hairdryer is the only thing I really have plugged in there.

As for the OP's problem, I'm not sure. Could have been some unusually good signal conditions caused by the heat (good signal = transmitters from further afield start interfering).

This sounds look a good shout, as the problem subsided as the temperature dropped.

It is almost certainly due to interference from other terrestrial signals travelling further than normal. Some enthusiasts try to pick up radio and TV signals from abroad or from other parts of the UK when there is a long period of high pressure, and judging by the thread below now is a particularly good time.
