Mods, feel free to move this thread if it's in the wrong place. Thought I'd mention that there's an interesting feature currently being shown on BBC inside out, regarding the reinstatement of a passenger service on the Leicester-Burton line.

It would be good to get this one back as there so few proper old style branches left. I do just wonder though if it would generate the traffic as the awkward curve to get it to Leicester wouldn't make it a good competitor to bus services from Ashby and Coalville (it's main markets)

Have just watched the BBC programme about this, anyone got the timetables for this that were shown in the programme?

Would the service have terminated at Burton or carried on perhaps to Lichfield?

The Summer 1951 timetable has 9 down services Mon to Fri, 10 Sats, 2 Suns with the first and last not calling all stations and first train from Leicester requiring a change at Coalville. There were 7 up services Mon to Fri, 8 on Sat and 2 on Sun. It doesn't appear there were any through services to elsewhere on the 31 mile branch and although included in the table (207) no trains were shown against the Woodville and Swadlincote branch with table 207 being the only one indexed to Swadlincote.

I was wondering more about the recent timetables the BBC presenter had in his hand at the council offices - these were apparently drawn up a few years back after a consultation
