I've only got to the 1st ad break, but there's been the usual railway footage.

Also there was a shot of the Victoria station area, with a class 395 heading out of the station!

I caught the Evan Davies programme. Though it is far from rocket science it did explain the need for infrastructure development and replacement very clearly. I was struck by Willie Walsh (? IIRC) saying that the third runway at Heathrow was the wrong answer, but, as something was needed now, it was the only answer. And questions about HS2 I have not seen mentioned before. Worth watching

The problem with expanding Heathrow is it is perpetuating the problem it has now. Namely flights from the East pass directly over the centre of London. As you fly in the plane banks to the right and you find yourself looking down on Tower Bridge. It is only a matter of time before there is a disaster. Indeed if the Lockerbie bomb had been set to trigger on descent, it would have already happened.

This is why we we need an estuary airport. But the two would need a good ground transport interchange.

A link to Gatwick would also not be a bad idea. I was once involved in organising an internatrional conference in Manchester and spent a lot of time explaining to people from overseas, particularly Africa, why a Gatwick to Heathrow interchange was not a good idea. They look quite close to each other on a map.

This is why we we need an estuary airport. But the two would need a good ground transport interchange.

No we don't. What makes more sense: spending billions constructing a completely new airport where there wasn't one before and where there are no existing transport links at all, therefore blighting the lives of people living in the area and destroying an important wildlife habitat, or expanding a major airport that is already there and already has transport links in place? Seems like a no brainer to me.

Boris should stop trying to interfere with stuff that is going to affect people that live outside of his area.

The presenter suggested that we might on the brink of a "new age" of infrastructure building!

Remember that Heathrow doesn't just serve London but most of Southern England. A big problem with the Estuary airport is accessibility from the North and West of London

Well HS2 is, hopefully, soon to be confirmed, Crossrail is under way, Crossrail 2 might well be on the cards, existing infrastructure is seeing upgrades all over the place, there are line reopenings ongoing and possibly more in the future. So I don't think they're wrong to make that suggestion really. I mean when you look at what's going on, when was the last time that the railway had this much work being done to expand and develop it?
