Turkish Class 70

Is this a class 70 or a random overseas loco? From a spotter's point of view rather than a technical one. Its been a while since I called myself a trainspotter, but when I did, it was important that I marked down a sighting of every locomotive in the UK. But UK locomotives abroad were also a draw, the Class 77s in Holland being the only ones I was aware of at the time.

Fast forward twenty years and UK types are all over Europe. With old workhouses like the 37/56/58s have been used on HSL, theres a 59 in Germany, 66s all over the place, not including the series 66 and French 77s. You'd have to spend time deep in France to mark off every class 373, and the old 86/87s live on in Eastern Europe.

So wheres the consensus? Is it just Tops number that matters when marking off the sightings?

Yup, thats a class 70, judgeing by the article tho it looks like its gonna be a demonstrator of some sort for europe so wether its EXACTLY the same i don't.

These days it is the UVN number that is unique. This system has replaced the old UIC numbering and many locos across Europe are having their numbers repainted in this format. It applies to coaches and wagons too. The UK should be doing it to although I have yet to see any evidence on locos and emus though the task might be complete on internal systems.

Lets take 66010 one of the Euro Cargo 66s - its EVN Number is:-

GB 92 70 0 066010-4

That's the number you need to note! It's great fun passing a shed full of locos at high speed!
