Not much north of Basingstoke, from memory just those around New Street and Tile Hill

South of Basingstoke, got some, Wallers Ash, Micheldever (2)(Popham)

Also tunnel at Southampton

Ahh do you know how long they are? So i assume just 3 , Birmingham and the 2 near baskingstoke?

Thanks. Where should one be looking for the height / altitude data?

The gradient profiles should indicate the locations (in milepost either "miles / chains" or "decimal miles" ) of any "summits".
The vertical scale seems to be proportional to the elevation, but does not seem to give exact feet above sea level.

Thanks. Was actually helpful. Would now suggest that somewhere near to the East of Lindal tunnel / the former Lindal station site is higher than anywhere in the Dalton area. Maybe 250 feet (= 76m) above sea level at Lindal.

There is also Harbury Tunnel between Banbury and Leamington Spa, which is just 73 yards long!

I make it probably eleven tunnels of varying lengths on the various sections of line used by XC between Wolverhampton and Southampton Central (via Oxford).

New Street North tunnel (751 yards) and Arena tunnel (176 yards) between Smethwick Rolfe Street and Birmingham New Street stations.

New Street South tunnel (254 yards) just after leaving Birmingham New Street.

Beechwood tunnel (300 yards) between Berkswell and Tile Hill stations on the section (between Birmingham International and Coventry).

Harbury tunnel (between Leamington Spa and Banbury) is 70 yards.

Litchfield tunnel (between Basingstoke and Micheldever) is 198 yards.

Popham No. 1 tunnel is 265 yards and Popham No. 2 tunnel is 199 yards. (Also located between Basingstoke and Micheldever).

Wallers Ash tunnel (between Micheldever and Winchester) is 501 yards.

St Cross tunnel (between Winchester and Shawford) is 62 yards.

Southampton tunnel (between St Denys and Southampton Central) is 528 yards.

The datum point appears to be Carnforth. I'm puzzled by the vertical scale which gives a difference of only 6m between Ulverston and Lindal Summit when 60m would seem more like it from the contours.

Hi guys , does anyone know how long it would take a class 390 to get though kilsbury tunnel just outside rugby station . At max line speed so I assume between 100-125mph and also does anyone know how many tunnels the are between Milton Keynes and Euston! Many thanks

Just been through the Kilsby Tunnel on a Pendolino and timed it at 46 seconds.

If that's correct, it looks to be just above the 600 foot contour level, so, the metric equivalent would be around 183 metres above sea level.

An interesting thing about this tunnel; if you're on the right hand side of the train, you can look up as you pass through the tunnel and see right the way up the two ventilator shafts at one third and two thirds the way through.

There are two:

Prestbury Tunnel, immediately to the north of the station serving that village, at 273 yards long
Macclesfield Hibel Road Tunnel, north of Macc station, at 343 yards long.
