I have a season ticket from Aylesbury Vale Parkway to London Travelcard Zones 5-6. On Monday, I had intended to catch a Metropolitan Line train from Moor Park to Amersham that was scheduled to depart at 18:09 and arrive at 18:25. This then gives me time to catch the 18:29 Chiltern Railways train from Amersham to Aylesbury Vale Parkway. The Metropolitan Line was disrupted on Monday due to signalling problems at Wembley Park. Although the disruption was reported to have cleared by the evening peak, when the 18:09 train arrived at Moor Park its destination was Chesham instead of Amersham. I had to wait about another 10 minutes for a train to Amersham, which meant that I missed my connection to Aylesbury. The next train to Aylesbury Vale Parkway arrived at 18:49 and required a change at Great Missenden, not arriving into Aylesbury Vale Parkway until 19:33. Am I entitled to compensation from TfL for the unannounced change in schedule at Moor Park which result in my missed connection to Aylesbury?

You can claim from TfL, but whether they will (or are obliged to) compensate you for any costs incurred beyond Amersham I do not know.

It's a valid connection, but TfL are known not to compensate for delays incurred on non-TfL services.

TfL do not compensate for delays outside their network.

You will likely get compensation for your journey to Amersham, as their compensation threshold is only 15 minutes.

Do TFL base the compensation amount on the full value of the ticket held (i.e. the National Rail tickets including the tube transfer) or merely what a single tube journey paper ticket would have cost?

Regardless, I think I am write in saying in the event of a tube delay using a ticket that includes a cross London transfer, the customer is 100% entitled to be accommodated on the next suitable National Rail service.

In my experience you get the Oyster/PAYG fare back.

If you are on a Cross London connection as part of a longer journey and get delayed then you will accommodated on a later train. I've no idea how delay repay works for that. In all honesty it's unlikely to happen as there are normally multiple ways of making the same journey on the tube.

If you are delayed on a multi TOC journey, you will get Delay Repay in accordance with how it is calculated by the TOC that delayed you. For a cross-London journey where you are delayed by LUL I suspect that it becomes bad luck and you don't get any thing more than the value of the underground journey.

If you only had to wait 10 minutes for an Amersham train, it is unlikely there would be any entitlement to compensation from LU either, unless it got delayed further en route.

I believe all compensation claims are handled by chiltern for the ticket type you have. Basically depending on the type of ticket you have, the underground is seen as a contractor too chiltern railways and vice versa. So chiltern will treat the changed destination underground service as a chiltern service for the purposes of compensation and then chase tfl for the costs. Likewise if a chiltern railways train breaks down at moor park which causes a 15 minute delay to chiltern oyster customers between harrow on the hill and amersham. lul will pay the compensation and bill chiltern later

This is a unique arrangement for the chiltern services that run via harrow on the hill. I would contact chiltern maybe informally and see what thsy say

If you take a Chiltern service then shouldn't you be claiming from them regardless of how you pay? I guess you could also claim from TfL, or did you make a typo in that post?

My understanding is that you claim from the rail company who are responsible for the delay. The Chiltern service was on time, but I missed it because the TfL service didn't run to its advertised schedule.

What happens if you have an Advance ticket and the middle leg involves the tube. If you miss the train you were supposed to be on, do you have to buy a new full fare ticket for the next train, even though the delay was caused by LUL?

Given the generous cross-London times that journey planners offer it would need to be quite a significant delay on the Tube, so I would expect the second train operator to be aware of it and allow you to travel without having to buy a new ticket.

When Oyster first came out all refunds were at the single cash fare against travelcards loaded on Oyster but that subsequently changed to the PAYG fare (delays could be quite profitable at one time). I don't know if there is any difference for paper travelcards.

If your advance ticket starts at an National Rail station and the tube is just a middle leg, then you are covered and should be allowed to catch the next train.
