The Subway, also known as the Clockwork Orange, is interesting but by gum it's tiny. For some of us it's hard to use as the headroom is poor. It makes the Bakerloo line feel luxurious...

385s as Kite says are even more delayed, which is disappointing as when I was at Haymarket this summer the adverts were proudly announcing the first would be starting in 2017. Once they start running I may actually make an effort to get north of the border again!

Bakerloo is definitely more fun and very much more spacious. Give the Clockwork Orange a spin though, for the novelty factor it's brilliant!

More importantly ensure you try a 314 as they're not long for this world!

Yay about the 318s. I don't like the 314 seats though. That's interesting though, I expected mainly 334s with a handful of 318s mixed in. The trains to and from Pollokshaws West should be 156s and the trains to and from Paisley Gilmour Street are hopefully going to be 380s. Might get a 320 as well.

There will be no trams on the Glasgow trip unfortunately.

The subway will make an appearance though for sure, I’ll be doing the Outer Circle the whole way from Partick to Partick.

Sadly I’m expectant that it will likely rain again, it never hasn’t when I’ve visited Scotland...

Travelling the Parry People Mover:

I write this at a rather posh hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon. I started today at Woking - in time to catch 444013 and 444034 to London Waterloo. The northern line whisked me to Euston and I boarded the lovely 390117 in its original livery but unlike some trains it had the more modern logo, it took me to Birmingham New Street.



From there I enjoyed the awesome traction motors of 323210 on a short hop to Smethwick Galton Bridge in order to take 172343 to Stourbridge Junction. You can guess what train I got there! 139001 if you weren’t sure - to Town station and back.



172334 took me back to Birmingham (Moor Street) before catching the penultimate train 172336 to Snow Hill. The final service of the day was 172213 & 172221 to Stratford upon Avon.

I disagree Ardlui is probably better than Crianlarich as you will be at the northern part of the loch

Also has the benefit of being the northern limit of a SPT Daytripper ticket

Hello, hectic times today (I write this in a first class seat of 390134) I found out my Virgin Pendolino 17:30 from Birmingham only went and got blooming cancelled! We therefore rushed to get 172345 to Birmingham Moor Street from Stratford upon Avon and spirited over to New Street to catch the 16:50. To my horror a double voyager stood there! First class full! I almost had a heart attack (!). I could have just gone to Basingstoke if I wanted to go on one of those! My brother was also very annoyed because it meant he couldn’t finish his film on BEAM. So antisocial! Then again, says me - because I was planning to upgrade on my own and leave my family in standard! Hey, they were fine with it, don't judge me just because I like to buy a little luxury! More fool them for not doing the same, right?

Fortunately my current pendo turned up for the 17:10 and I now sit in first class on it, after enjoying a Pulled Pork Wrap, with pretzels, cookies and a chocolate truffle. Coffee and sparkling water too!



The upgrade price was £5. Works for me!

A few years (actually more than a few ) down the line I’ve realised that the memories I value the most are of the quirky old strange things that I experienced while they were still running.
Some things will be around forever (well at least another thirty years when you’re my age ), yet some things like the ex BR stuff - 314s etc will be long gone and you end up kicking yourself that you took them for granted and didn’t do them when you had a chance.
This is not a lecture, just an observation by someone who enjoys watching how your generation sees things.

Well I must admit that I don’t have a clue what your username means (I think mine’s probably obvious though), but I like that you take onboard advice/information TT (which is also by the way our nickname for our oldest who’s really called Tamzin - she’s 21 and got a massive bol****ing today for nicking all the cups and plates and hoarding them in her room etc...).
The day you stop learning is the day you stop er, learning. If you get what I mean..?
I love listening and learning from people that know more than me. I think that that’s what life’s about isn’t it?

Cowley is also right that we constantly learn from those more educated than ourselves on a subject. I'm always listening and learning every day from some of my wiser friends on select subjects. I may be the resident expert on travel in my group, but that's it. Oh, and beer...

So far I’ve had a declassified first class 4 to myself on a 165, a 3 facing 3 to myself on a 450, a table seat to myself on a double 221 and now a 3 facing three to myself on this 165 166 combo. (A dud sadly)
