Hi All. I freely admit I know absolutely nothing worthwhile about "Ticketing Machines" etc....but I couldn't help but notice that my local station (page 38 of Schedule 17 of the guide) is the only one with an "Advantix" Approved TIS out of all the SWT stations.

Does anyone know why this is please? Probably doesn't make a fig of difference in the greater scheme of things, but I can't help being curious!:D

In layman's terms, it refers to the range of tickets that need to be made available at that station.

Where Avantix is specified, that basically means normal walk-up tickets, 7 day Seasons and Rail Rovers and Rangers (assuming the TOC hasn't restricted sale of same).

Monthly and longer seasons, Railcards, Advance tickets and reservations will not be available, nor will anything that has to be issued on special ticket stock.

Avantix Mobile is the name of the handheld ticket issuing system used by guards, and in some stations where there's no power supply, place to put a ticket office, or no point in buying a machine when it'll only be used for a few hours a day

Thank you for the replies. I guess that the "types" of tickets bought by the vast majority of pax using Overton station are going to be for the pretty uncomplicated / mundane stuff, so that would make sense - but I can't imagine we have the only station, SWT managed, in this boat- e.g. Grateley....

We do have only very limited (but most welcome) Ticket Office open hours - and we do have a functional 24/7 Ticket Machine.

I guess in answer to my query there are probably "combined reasons" for the anomaly. Thank You.

Might it be that Overton has a physical ticket office that gets manned? Botley is not in the list, but is another where a bloke with an Advantix shows up in the morning peak, but there's no physical office there, just one of those GRP broom cupboard affairs...

Yes, you are quite correct there is a physical "thing:D" there that's broom cupboard-like and the chappie does indeed cover the morning rush as you say....so we're not unique here after all then!!!! Good to give the punter every chance to purchase before travel I say!;)
