Hello,

I recently received a penalty fare for traveling without a valid railcard, which resulted in a fine. Unfortunately, I misplaced the receipt containing the fine reference number and was unable to make the payment. This issue persisted until I returned from my home country and found the receipt in my mailbox. However, when I attempted to pay the fine, the system indicated that payment was no longer possible as the matter had progressed to prosecution.

I am seeking advice on whether prosecution can still be avoided by paying the fine, especially as my attempts to contact IRCAS for assistance have been unsuccessful due to their busy operators. Any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

How long ago was the penalty fare issued, and which train company is involved? Have you checked your other mail for a court summons?

It was issued in at the end of October and it’s with west midland rail. I haven’t received court summons just a reminder but I only became aware of this in January as I was in my home country between November and January.

I would contact West Midlands Trains Prosecutions Department and explain what has happened and see if they will alow you to pay.
