Trying to identify a railway station.

I've recently watched an old episode of the TV drama Hamish Macbeth. In series 3 episode 4 - The Good Thief, a railway station is shown towards the end of the episode.

The line is a terminal line with a stone wall immediately behind the buffers with a tunnel shape on it. There is a normal Scotrail two coach DMU standing at the platform. When the train pulls away, you can see the sea in the background.

Having recently been to Kyle and Plockton stations I don't recognise it as being at either, but does anyone know the location?

Watching it now but have not seen enough of the station(s) so far to identify.

These things are often composites of more than one location (the train on the embankment on the loch shore may not be anywhere near the station(s) used).

Sounds like Wick or Thurso...

Definitely not Thurso, as I also went there recently (see my avatar). Looking at images online, Wick looks very similar to Thurso

There can't be many terminal lines to choose from, or indeed it may be a dummy wall as suggested above, but why would the film makers need to go to so much trouble?

The station clock had the name 'Koch' on it if that is any guide.

I don't think is is really a terminal station - hence the dummy wall and bufferstop. I think it's a small through station.

Good point. One that comes to mind as being like that is Fearn. I also thought of Stromeferry, that alas doesn't have the correct bridge.

I think I may have found it. It looks like Duncraig, the next station down from Plockton.

I can't see the reasoning for going to all the trouble to put a dummy wall under the bridge though, as it being a terminal station wasn't a necessary part of the story line.

Looks like they built a shelter as well.

The last picture suggests the Kyle line somewhere - i think the production company have made some alterations to an existing station

From my photo's and looking at google map it's Duncraig. Looks like a cloth wall was placed on the overbridge at the end of the platform to make it look like a Terminal Station (complete with dummy buffer stop). Series was filmed at Plockton, (next stop towards the Kyle from Duncraig), and the surrounding areas.

Yup, if you read the credits at the end, they acknowledge the assistance of the citizens of Kyle and Plockton.

Brilliant series by the way, if you haven't seen it.

Earlier this year I finally managed to make a trip on the line, so I knew it wasn't Plockton station. For anyone who has read all the hype about this train journey from Inverness to Kyle, it is well justified. Kyle itself isn't particularly interesting, but the timetable allows a stop-off in Plockton on the return trip and a stay there of 3 hours or so.

Thankfully, Plockton hasn't milked the Hamish Macbeth series, and remains natural (unlike Goathland in Heartbeat) and the only indication of the series is a small black and white photo of Robert Carlisle in the village hall.

One amusing incident I've never witnessed before was that a level crossing signal was broken on the return to Inverness, stopping the train instead of the traffic, and the driver couldn't fix it, so he sounded the horn continually and drove through anyway.

I am tempted to make a return visit next year.
