TRP 2 Dials Test failure

I have failed this test but passed all the others and would just like some tips of how to pass this test? Practised a great deal, but on the day used the lowest numbers of the dials as the priority and wasn't successful. Bit confused with the Zones as all but 1 is shaded so confused on how to work out the order of checking.

Can anyone that has done this test give me some clarification on how best to work out the dials for next time please?

You failed because you didn't understand the test.

The numbers around the outside of the dial are meaningless, as is how far around the dial the needle has gone. What matters is which zone on the dial the needle is pointing to. There are four zones on the dial in ascending order of priority with the first (unshaded) zone being the lowest priority and the fourth being the highest priority. That is what you need to concentrate on. The dial where the needle points to the zone indicating the highest order of priority is the one you go to first no matter what number it's pointing to.

By the way, you now cannot take another driver's assessment for 6 months and, if you fail again, you will not be given another opportunity. Always take your time and make sure you understand what you're being asked to do.

Hi thanks for the reply, yeah ive asked the question in as many places as possible.


That makes more sense, am I correct in saying that as 3 of the zones are shaded, I identify which one to check 1st, 2nd and 3rd by the portion of the dial that the shaded area covers from left to right on the Priority of Checking Guide?

No, there are four zones. The first one is not shaded, but it is still a zone.

But yes, you are prioritising based on the zones, where the first zone is the lowest priority up to the fourth zone which is the highest. The purpose of the test is to demonstrate that you can quickly identify the information that is important while disregarding the rest, and then form a plan of action based on that information.
