Trouble down at Bury St Edmunds...

Just what on earth is going on down at Bury St Edmunds today? Just got back from Thurston station, after I tried to get a Thurston-Cambridge service (planned to go to Bury on the train, with the already planned rail replacement bus going to Cambridge) only to be greeted with no trains and no rail replacement bus to even get me to Bury... let alone Cambridge!

Screens are also black at the station... so it kind of leaves me stumped transport wise. Looks like I'll have to call a taxi...

I'm back at my house in Thurston now, and I was literally at Thurston station attempting to gain onwards transport about 20 or so minutes ago.

I'm trying to end up in Cambridge... just sorting out my own way to Bury now to connect with the rail replacement bus service.

All departures from Thurston are showing as CANCELLED.

All train departures from BSE are showing as CANCELLED however there are the following bus departures:

Cambridge bound rail-replacement leaving at 2207:

BSE 2207d
Kennett 2227
Newmarket 2242
Dullingham 2252
Cambridge 2322

This is the last CBG bound service leaving BSE tonight.

I'm probably confusing people here.

I was led to believe that Bury St Edmunds - Cambridge would be closed today after 1930 for planned engineering works.
My plan was to go Thurston - BSE on the train, then catch the rail replacement to Cambridge.

But, I get to Thurston only to sit there like a lemon for 30 or so minutes... no function platform screens, no trains!

I was on this line earlier, on the last Ipswich - Cambridge train before works started (the 17:19). Upon arrival in Cambridge, the conductor announced that he was unsure of information about replacement bus services, so it seems that the replacement buses aren't very well organised!

If you need to get to CBG tonight then somehow get to BSE for the 2207 coach departure!!!

I am as confused as much as you - I am going by this:

Which suggests that he needs to get to CBG - went to Thurston and nothing turned up - came back home to sort things out - joined us and asked!

Essentially it needs to go Thurston > Bury St Edmunds > Cambridge. Just trying to see if I get to BSE in time for the bus departure now... thanks guys. Would be intrigued to know what's going on after all this...

As I said - get a receipt for any excess expenditure!
You may find that there is no ticket check as you get on the coach so essentially get to CBG for free, in which case don't complain to NXEA... free excluding any taxi to BSE!

It is perfectly understandable why we are confused! Don't worry - we can see your in 'panic mode' and are posting on the rush

At the end of the day we hope that you get to your destination somehow (although it may be tomorrow before you get there )

Oh right. Apon further findings we have:

Stowmarket-Bury: Emergency engineering works.
Bury-Cambridge: Planned engineering works.

Oh marvellous. My transport arrives in 10, should be a ok.

After all this - there seems to be a Colchester bound train<i>(this does not help 'suffolk lp3') departure from BSE at 2336 (2L85) calling Thurston 2340 - so things seem to be planned to get through!
However it is yet to be seen if this is cancelled!

There was ment to be SLW in operation between Elmswell and Bury, however there was no Pilotman or barrier attended booked to do the work so the pax services were delayed while this was sorted.

Things seem to return to normal in time for the 22.16 Ipswich to BSE to run through. Until approx 22.00 it was planned to terminate Stowmarket.
