I recall there used to be an old chap who used to do the Cardiff-Portsmouth run with interesting sounding stock like albatross crisps and fresh fish. Brought a smile going through Fareham past 11pm!
Is he still knocking around?
Any advances on the culinary delights above?

There's another individual on ATW's services (seen on Marches and NW Coast) who will routinely hawk "eggs and bread", "eye of newt", and such delicacies. When asked, he seems to have just run out. :(

Could be the same chap..possibly based in Newport.
Last seen him bout 5 yrs ago in Abergavenny on a Manchester working and did a double take!
Got used to his sales pitch when wessex did the severn solent route...perhaps seeing the sea made him sell these things!

Yes it's the same fellah. I know him well as both a colleague and as a customer - he's a good lad and does the job well. He's been on the job since at least 2004 for Wales and West / Wessex etc, and is now at Arriva At-Seat. Range of items from Harry Potter ouevre etc.

Catch that last train from Soton to Portsmouth quite regularly and I've never seen him :(

Trolley stewards on FGW services are Rail Gourmet, separate to ATW. So if he works other routes out of Wales you won't see him on anything heading towards the south coast.

What is Arriva At-Seat?

I used to regularly be entertained by that chap when I first started travelling Hereford to Manchester. Everyone in the coach used to giggle, although I'm not sure whether his sales were increased!

I'd assumed he must have retired, as I haven't seen him for ages. Glad to hear he's still around :D .

Arriva At Seat Catering is an arms-length company owned by Arriva that handles catering on ATW - the staff are employed directly, and the company is funded through a lump sum from ATW?

Michael will put me right here, I'm sure
