Whenever I pass through Church Fenton station I find it strange as it has 4 platforms but at the same time its unstaffed.

It made me think though which unstaffed station does have the most platforms, the only ones I can think of with more than two platforms are Rugeley Trent Valley (3) and of course Church Fenton (4) I am under the impression that for any unstaffed station to have more than two platforms it is very very rare.

Can anyone think of any stations with more platforms that are unstaffed?

Just had a gander through Quail Midland (the only one I have to hand):
3 platforms: Mansfield Woodhouse, Hatton, Acton Bridge, Sellafield (three faces, two tracks)
4 platforms: Barnt Green

Wakefield Kirkgate and Mirfield both have 3, Leyland has 4 but I think that is staffed part-time.

There are probably quite a few where the platforms on fast lines are not used by scheduled services. It would be more meaningful to discuss stations where all platforms are used by regular services.

Severn Tunnel Junction is staffed I think.

A ticket office is manned (or rather womanned!) from 06.30 until about 10.30 Mon-Fri. They have no remit on the station as such.

Filton Abbey Woods has three platforms.

But in that area isn't the word "enigma" more associated with Bletchley, or at least the buildings across the road from the station entrance?

I meant enigma as in a person, thing, or situation that is mysterious, puzzling, or ambiguous rather than the Enigma Machine!

Barnetby's another 4 platform unstaffed station.

it was Barnetby i meant. Does it not have a bay?

All four platforms at Cheddington (as with the other local stations on the WCML) are regularly used.

There is one with 4 through platforms and i am sure a bay that is rolling around in my mind but i cant think of the bloody name!

Didn't Cheddington have a bay for the Aylesbury trains at one time ?

Wasn't the largest unstaffed station Birmingham Snow Hill before it closed in 1970? Not sure how many platforms were actually in use at the time of closure but I believe there were 12 platform faces. 8 bays plus 4 long through platforms - each of which was numbered as 2 platforms - so potentially up to 16 platforms.

There were some stations back in the 70's glam rock era, that were unstaffed and had over a dozen platforms ...

Filton Abbey Wood is manned by Revenue Protection during morning rush and by a dedicated Customer Service Station Operative between 12:30 and 7:30pm, Mon-Fri.

Î was thinking unmanned as in "nobody dispatching trains" or relatively permanent presence. I didn't know there was a presence after the ATE's went home.

Yes Barnetby has four platforms and has never had a bay platform in its life in its present state, but I think it mostly only see,s trains on its two inside platforms these days.
But they are still there to use so it counts.
Church Fenton is used on all platforms by trains going both directions Leeds one pair of platforms and Sherburn in Elmet on the other two platforms.
