Trivia > stations with "hidden" (but working) platforms?

With the news that Bolton Trinity St. might be re-instating Platform 5 (goodbye car park, then) reminded me that passengers today have to be directed to Platform 2 - tucked away between 1 and 3 at the far end of 1 & 3.

Dunno if P2 is used during the day normally, but it's certainly being used during the current works.

Just wonder if any other stations have platforms so tucked away as to be almost invisible, and maybe only known to the regulars ??

BTW does an extra platform mean we can have more trains passing through/day - if there were any units available??

Derby platform 5 has always seemed a bit tucked away on it's own.

Swindon's bay platform 2 which serves the local Cheltenham and Transwilts services is a bit tucked away at the end of platforms 1 & 3 too.

Heaven knows when it was last used for a passenger train, but p1 at Hull is very out of the way.

At Nottingham, Platform 2 is out of the way at the east end, as is the new through platform 4.

The low level platforms at Glasgow Central where suprisingly hard for me to find. Platform 1 and 2 at Lincoln is tucked out the way too

As a counterpoint, the Old platform 6 at lincoln is easy to find (opposite platform 5) but unusable

Platform 0 at Cardiff Central. It isn't actually "hidden" (you can easily see it from the other platforms), but as the entrance to it is in a totally different area of the station to the subway that leads to all of the other platforms, it can be easy to miss it.

Platform 14 at Bristol Temple Meads is very hard to find.

Platform 1 at Temple Meads can be confusing to find if you don't know it is there.

Is there even a platform 14 there? I thought it went 13 straight to 15 (or did I miss the sarcasm there lol, in which case Platform 5 at Cardiff Central also deserves a mention).

Platform 10 at Dublin Heuston is probably the worst I can think of, it must be a good 1/4 from the station.

Nope I think it was near the site of the current PSB but I'm not sure on that one.

Bristolians have a 'different' way of looking at things - maybe 14 is their unlucky number!

5 at Basingstoke - you come out of the subway on 4 and have to walk along a bit and through a little passageway to come out onto it.

Platform 3 at Northwich could be used if the wire fencing separating it from platform 2 was cut away, freight trains use the track adjacent to the platform and sometimes stop there due to a red signal at the end of platform 3 so presumably it could be used for passenger services without any re-signalling.

Platform 4c at Birmingham New Street. Until recently I did not know this bay platform existed.

Perhaps I just don't look where I am going. Bristol Parkways is trouble for me. I end up one platform too far because of the missing platform one.

Retford platform 2. It's signed from the ticket hall but if you wander in without noticing/paying attention it's easily missed and then quite hard to find!

I can see how platforms 9-12 could be difficult to find at Newcastle too - it doesn't really make much sense that they're next to platform 2!

Platform 1 at Glasgow Queen st has caused many a person to miss their train over the years, often they come off something sitting in 2 wondering why their train hasn't left!

Platform 0 at Kings Cross (the old taxi road) is not all that easy to find if you are not familiar with the station.

I think that Brighton platform 8 is a bit isolated, as with Victoria platform 8.

Wolverhampton platform 6 sees more use as an emergency siding for broken down trains than passenger services.

Wasn't platform 6 originally used for Wolves to Shrewsbury stoppers? It is a bay platform so I can't imagine it being used for much else (Rather like the other bay platform 5 being used for Wolves - New St and Walsall stoppers)

It would also explain why it is so redundant now as the stopper now runs Shrewsbury to New St.

I also believe there is no permitted passenger route into p6 at Wolves, it all must be done ECS etc.
