British/National Rail or Overground stations only. No Underground.

I'd probably say Heathrow Junction is the shortest-lived station I can think of as it was only open for 6 months.

Meadowbank Stadium? Only open for the duration of the 1986 Commonwealth Games. If we’re talking about “official“ stations, the rebuilt Rutherglen lasted just 5 1/2 years before being replaced by the Argyle Line one.

Scale Hall, 1957-1966. Quite long-lived compared to some of the examples above, but still short-lived in the great scheme of things.

We’re presumably referring to those served by public timetabled services only. Must have been quite few wood and scaffolding affairs for depot open days etc.
What about the various otherwise closed stations that “reopened” for a fortnight or every year for specials during the local “Wakes Weeks” (choose local term as appropriate)? Or Dronfield in the 1981 snows? OK - their total life wasn’t short but their renaissance usually was.

Watford Stadium?
Think that's definitely a valid contender. Normally only ever open on Watford FC match days. Opened December 1982 and was last rail-served thirteen-and-a-bit years later in March 1996, excluding it's being subsequently "served" by rail replacement buses.

Indeed, but hadn't it (Maentwrog Road station) been previously open between 1882 and c. 1960/61 in its previous incarnation?

There was a temporary platform built at the end of the Amlwch branch line in about 1993 for a handful of DMU specials that operated on the line. It was a couple of hundred yards south of the Octel loop sidings. The old terminus station had disappeared many years previously.

Griffith's Crossing. A temporary platform was installed for the Royal party to alight from the Royal Train for the investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1969.

There is a series of Wikipedia pages ‘ Category: Railway stations in Great Britain opened in 19XX ‘. This probably isn’t exhaustive and does include reopenings.

Chetrisham reopening as 'Ely Temporary Station' during the Ely works in 1991/2. Uniquely for the ones on this list, I used it, changing for a bus to Shippea Hill for a train to Norwich.

....and also for the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line. I drove into and out of it a couple of times, conducted by a Carlisle driver.

I seem to remember there was a temporary station at Chettisham between March and Ely for some weekend engineering possessions at Ely North Junction in 1991

It was a temporary terminus for the Blackpool line whilst a bridge was being inserted, demolished or repaired ( I don't remember which it was).
Was that the temporary Maudland platform at Tulketh Brow? Quite amazing what B.R. were still willing to do back in the early 1990s. The bridge work being undertaken was in connection with building the A59 Penwortham by-pass roadway underneath the West Coast mainline near to (just North of) Preston station.

Yes that’s the one. It was a great idea, though I can’t see it being done ever again.
