I know there are numerous curved platforms, probably more than straight ones (!) but standing at the end of platform 3 (Bolton) - unless my eyes need testing I'm sure the curve goes back on itself therefore it looks like an S from above.
Google Earth doesn't help - but in any case even if I'm right I can't believe it's the only one.
So folks - stations who have at least one platform that's S-shaped from above?

Looking like it's quite common then!
Cheers for the info!

They all seem to be an absurd shape of one sort or another. It's like the station was inspired by one of those children's shape sorter things. ;)

It's to get round the platform buildings and keep within the railway boundary. By the time the station had finished expanding, the surrounding area was fully built up.

There are four stations with s-shaped platforms between Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour. Southampton Central platforms 3 and 4, St. Denys platforms 3 and 4, Woolston and Portsmouth & Southsea high level. Portsmouth & Southsea high level being unusual as this island platform has a triple curve. In the up direction travelling from Portsmouth Harbour towards Fratton there is a right hand curve entering the platform followed by a left hand curve towards the centre changing again to a right hand curve when exiting the platform. Is this unique or are there other similar platforms out there on the network?

Has Bursledon going towards Portsmouth got a slight left hand bend in the direction of travel as you enter the platformunder the road bridge, followed by a right hand bend still alongside the platform as you exit the station?
