Trivia: Most stations called at on one route?

I noticed Chester to Southport services on Sundays call at 29 stops, I looked up the daily Buxton to Barrow in Furness and this stops 36? times in 3 hours 32 minutes!

Is there any routes which call at a greater number of stops?

Cross Country's Aberdeen to Penzance calls at 44 stations (including origin and destination) in 13 hours and 22 minutes.

Piccadilly Line Cockfosters-Cockfosters via Heathrow T4. 70 intermediate stops (but 34 of them are duplicates).

Preston - Carlisle via Barrow is 36 including origin and destination.

I don't have the timetable to hand to count them, but the 0809 departure from Cardiff Central calls at Bridgend, all stops to Swansea, then (Gowerton?) Llanelli and all stops on the Heart of Wales line to Shrewsbury.

It doesn't stop at Gowerton krus. Shrewsbury is the 41st call, (42nd if including Cardiff) but 17 of the stations in between are request stops!

Must be fun for the conductor to have to deal with passengers potentially asking for 17 different request stops.

Like on the Cambrian Coast, the conductors walk up and down the train all the time. In practice, most of the journeys made on the line are to and from the larger places where the train stops anyway. For instance, if someone does get on at, say, Garth, it's likely they will be going to Llandrindod, Knighton or Shrewsbury rathyer than making the short hop to Cilmeri or Builth Road!

It loops round at Heathrow Airport and then follows the same route back to Cockfosters, hence calling at most stations twice.

Yeah, Heart of Wales Line and Manchester-"far end of Wales" trains have an unbelievable number of stops. When the automatic announcer starts at Manchester Piccadilly or Shrewsbury for these trains it just becomes background noise and it spends a good couple of minutes going through the stops and then through the request stops!

It was a lot of fun when I last travelled that way, to Cilmeri (request stop). I told the conductor at Cardiff, and then told the second conductor who got on at Swansea. After leaving Garth I stood up and dashed to the toilets before unshackling my bicycle. When the train stopped I discovered that a third conductor had taken over at Llandovery, and didn't know I wanted to get off at Cilmeri! Thankfully Builth Road wasn't too far out of my way.

St James to South Hylton on the TW Metro is 46 stations, only one is duplicated (Monument, although different platforms are used).

37 on the 10:09 ATW Birmingham International - Pwllhei. Some of these station are only 2 minutes apart. Although most of them are request stops so the chance of the train actually stopping at all 37 stations is probably quite slim.

Perhaps the conditions should be that the train has to be valid on a single ticket (which would rule out a few suggestions!).

Close. I think the most stops depending on route is 39.

Although the information isn't in 'timetable format', Scotrail's track access application is on the Network Rail website, and shows all the various services and calling patterns.
