Hi, My Dad said that Colne Station in Lancashire once had 5 platforms and now just has 1.
Is there anywhere else that's still open that lost 4 or more platforms?
Thanks.

Manchester Victoria.

Originally 17, now 6 + 3 Metrolink

(17 doesn't include the 5 at Exchange)

How many platforms did Blackpool South have at its peak? Only one now of course. I guess there's a few seaside resorts who's stations have been vastly reduced in size... Blackpool South of course wasn't a terminus for a long time so I wouldn't be surprised if there are a fair few which have lost more though.

Manchester Victoria has lost a few too, especially if you bend the rules to include Exchange in the total!

Ambergate used to have 6 but it now has 1, Uttoxeter used to have 3 stations each with many platforms at least 6 but now it only has 1 with 2 platforms.

A serious contender must be Normanton W Yorks been the interchange station for multiple companies. Now is just one island with 2 platforms

Crewe has certainly lost a number of platforms over the years although not sure how many. Duffield has lost some platforms over the years as well but I am not sure how many.

Christs Hospital station had 7 platforms until the mid 1960s and now has 2
Blackpool North had 16 platforms and now has 8
Aberystwyth had 5 platforms and now has one.

Normanton only ever had the island platform it retains, but at its zenith there were double bays at both ends as well. Although it was an important junction, it was never a particularly large station.

Surely Talbot Road had 14 platforms? Six 'under the roof' in the main part of the station, plus the eight excursion platforms outside that form the current Blackpool North. Blackpool Central had 16 platforms. (Sorry - pedant mode off!)

Blackpool South wasn't much of a station either, even at its height, with only four platforms: an island on each route. Trains didn't terminate there until Central station closed, and since both the direct and coastal routes were only double track, there was no need for a larger station.

Not as dramatic a loss as some, but I believe Loughborough Junction used to have six platforms. Now it has two (poorly maintained) platforms.

Chinley must have had a least 6 platforms including bays, now down to just 2, also would hazard a guess that Morecambe now down to 2 also fits the bill, Stockport of course lost 4 bay platforms but later gained a new through platform (0).
