Trivia: Most changes required between two stations operated by the same TOC

This will change tomorrow, however, as through trains from the Cambrian Coast to Shrewsbury will end. This will mean that it will take a minimum of 4 changes to travel from somewhere like Barmouth to Cardiff Bay by train, changing at stations such as Machynlleth, Shrewsbury, Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street.

There is one direct Cardiff Central - Bay service on Sundays, and one in the opposite direction on Mondays to Saturdays in the new timetable.

Do you know if it works as a through service on the ground, rather than a Cardiff Central-Cardiff Queen Street service which happens to use the same unit as the next Cardiff Queen Street-Cardiff Bay one?

I notice that two sections were shown as separate services in the last NR timetable. It's the same in the current NR timetable, either, but as that misses table 130A out altogether this may not mean too much. The ATW Valleys timetable doesn't appear to show the train at all before it reaches Cardiff Queen Street.

If it is a through service, it just means the minimum number of changes between any pair of ATW stations is at most 3 now, up from 2.

That's like saying Doncaster to Barton's direct as the train runs there on another service.

RTT has them down as through services:
2S72 SSuX 2354 Cardiff Bay-Cardiff Central
2B24 SuO 0854 Cardiff Central-Cardiff Bay

That implies they have the same headcode throughout, which is what a lot of people seem to use as the yardstick (e.g. to determine when loop services change destination etc).

I know that they both have. I was wondering because the Cardiff Bay-Cardiff Central and Coryton-Cardiff Bay trains are advertised in the timetable as through services, but that one isn't.
