Today I was at Reading, wanting to travel to Dorking on the 1624 departure to Gatwick Airport. Passengers were told that, instead of the booked, and indicated, departure platform 5, it would leave from p13. This is quite a trek for those with luggage, children, etc. Arriving at p13, we found a GWR platform staff member standing by the Turbo unit apologising that the train would now depart from p5 after all, as "they had stolen a unit". So, we traipsed back to p5, finding a platform full of passengers but with no train. A glance at 'Traksy' showed me that there was nothing in range of p4-6 that could form the 1624. Then, we were further told that the train would leave from p13 after all!! I gave up at this point and just waited for the following 1654!

My fuming at this farce having subsided, I wondered how many platform changes for the same train (within such a short time) people had experienced...

Back in 2019 when there lots of disruption on the West London Line i had a London Overground train at Clapham Junction altered from P1 to P17 to P1 to P17 all within about ten minutes. I got good exercise that day. Three platform alterations for the same service.

I remember missing two successive Brussels Central - Ghent St P workings due to last minute platform changes when I’d a lot of luggage and a missus in tow.
