Just reading another thread about the history of the terms "Up" and "Down" referring to line direction. Generally speaking, Up is to London. As we know this isn't necessarily the case. I did have a quick search, I assume this has been done before on the forum but couldn't find anything.
For example - the Welsh Marches line is, if i remember rightly, Up to Shrewsbury and Down to Cardiff (where the line branches off the mainline near Newport, the Up there is of course heading to London, so Up continues all the way up the Marches.)
Another example is Merseyrail where Up is always to Liverpool. The Chester/Ellesmere Port line was originally Up toward Chester (heading away from Liverpool as the line was originally heading to Paddington) however this changed I believe with electrification to Hooton in the 80s.
Any other examples?
