A 319 ended up in P1 a few weeks ago as there was a broken one in the Reversing siding at the West end.

Whenever I’ve been to Southport there’s generally been a unit stabled on Wallside.

I can’t believe nobody has mentioned the Ordsall chord yet?
Ar right, interesting to know about Southport.

I thnk the platform next to it must be the only platform Ive ever seen with the conductor rail positioned next to the platform face, so you step over it when you get on the train.

Ordsall chord sees a 319 on a diagram.

A Branch Line Society rare track tour visited it one Sunday last year with a 6-car Merseyrail EMU. I believe it has also been used on very rare occasions when platform 3 has been blocked by a failed unit, however any unit reversing in P2 will almost certainly get in the way of a service towards Warrington so the usual fallback plan is to curtail electric services at South Parkway.

Realtime Trains shows the 2333 arrival at Hunts Cross from Southport and the subsequent 2337 empty stock to Kirkdale using platform 2, however this never actually happens and it always goes into 3.

Thats interesting...
If there is ever a failure at Hunts cross then they use the right hand trailing switch just north of South Parkway.

At Hunts cross west junction, the Allerton chord junction there are wires over and a 3rd rail, the wires cant ever be used there, and the current control are Crewe for AC and Sandhills for DC

There are others, such as locations where third-rail trains serve tracks with two platform faces - where, by their very nature, one platform has to be next to the conductor rail. Guildford platform 7 immediately springs to mind.

On LU, you'll see this at places like Cockfosters, Uxbridge, Morden, Arnos Grove and Stratford.

Yes the thread has been put in the right context now. I'm always unsure about where and what to post but that's what I meant. Lines that have electric wires above them but have never seen any electric traction like platform 8 in York.

Pretty certain that icebreakers have used platform 8 at York in the past.

I once heard that when Strathclyde PTE (or whatever it was called a the time) was looking at reopening the R&C they intended to terminate the service at Coatridge Central instead of Whifflet, the reason Whifflet became the terminus was because Coatbridge Junction is a single lead junction and at that time just after the Bellgrove crash single lead junctions were getting a really bad press and as Whifflet North had retained a standard double junction it was decided to go there instead

A degree of truth here. The signalling layout at Coatbridge Central didn’t lend itself to turning trains there - the junction signal was behind the platform, meaning that Coatbridge Junction was held while a departing train for Carmyle was waiting. So, they routed them to Whifflet instead, where the signalling layout didn’t lend itself to turning trains.....

In Leeds, one of the lines between Whitehall Jn and Engine Shed Jn (i.e. the station avoiding curve) is partly wired. I doubt anything with a pantograph goes down there.

Dont think Ive been to any of those stations.

It just seemed like an odd arrangement to me.

Has electric traction ever used the Ince Moss Curve since the wires went up in 2015?

In the same vicinity, the Goods Lines between Bamfurlong Jn & Wigan South Jn (the pair which dive under the WCML just south of Springs Branch) have probably not had their wires scraped for a good many years now. The Goods Lines OHLE will get a new lease of life when Northern's new EMU stabling point opens at Springs Branch, but in the past these lines have seen the occasional electric freight just after electrification in 1973, plus sometimes an electric thunderbird loco which waited on standby outside the old Springs Branch TMD.
