Trivia: Closest distance between two bus stops

Closest with most services might be a couple of pairs of northbound stops on Stanley Road in Bootle, Merseyside. Either side of Trinity Road, approx 110m apart, services 52, 52A, 55, 300 (approx 10 per hour) call at the closest pair but if you include a second stop (approx 30m before) you also get X2, 47, 53, 54 and 62 (approx 13 per hour). Further along a couple of stops either side of a roundabout at North Park are also approx 100m apart with 52, 52A, 58 and 61 calling at both (approx 11 buses an hour).

Newport Transport's 31C stops in Asda Car Park and then in Pencarn Way about 85 yards away as the crow flies. A little further as the bus drives.

There must be lots of circular routes and double runs where the same bus serves shops just the width of the road apart.

Probably not as close as some of the others, but the northeast-bound Avonmore Avenue and Elgin Gardens stops in Guildford (routes 6, 18, 462, 715) have always struck me as remarkably close.

TrawsCymru T10 terminates/begins at Bangor Station forecourt. It then loops behind the station building before serving the Deiniol Road stop approximately 68m away as the crow flies.

What is the closest distance between two stops which are served by the same service? I'd discount cases where a route stops at one stop part of the day and another at a different time, I'm thinking ones where you could get on and get off the same bus - if you were so inclined.

The pair which lead to this thought are in Sheffield, Prince of Wales Road/Noehill Road and Prince of Wales Road/Motehall Road which are 137.7m apart.

I'm sure there will be closer ones, in particular are there any under 100m apart?

The 398 at South Harrow Station stops on one side of Northolt Road goes through the bus station and then stops opposite the first stop
It does this in the same order no matter whether it is going to or from Ruislip
Rather amusingly queues build up at the second stop although there is no reason not to get on at the first stop and get a seat
( just to confuse in addition 398 has two stops each called Corbins Lane separated by the 2 stops called South Harrow station

When the Shuttle Bus ran around Guildford town centre in the 2000s, it stopped at a quantifiable number of bus stops that were very close to each other. In particular, two stops (Tunsgate and Baker's Yard) is about 139m according to my measurement on Google maps. Both are gone now.

Stagecoach South route 91 (Woking to Knaphill) has around 81yds/74m between the Randolph Close and Robin Hood Road bus stops in the Knaphill direction, between Creston Avenue/Robin Hood Road in Knaphill, Surrey.

Stagecoach South route 2 (Farnborough to Camberley) has around 130yds/118m between the West Heath Road and Andrews Road stops in the Camberley direction, on Fernhill Road in Farnborough, Hampshire.

I don't know how to measure the distance, but these two stops in Kidsgrove are very close, positioned either side of the junction, and both served by the 95 and 318.

Might be a stretch but Preston Bus 100 calls at 2 different stands in the bus station (8 and 36).

The Stockport Metroshuttle service was like this as well, serving one of the "through" stop on the A6 as well as a stand in the main bus station. Made sense at the time, because the A6 stops were only connected to the rest of the bus station by a steep flight of concrete steps. Things have changed a lot in just a few years - the grim old bus station has been completely demolished and replaced with a very nice modern facility, which includes shiny new lifts from the bus station to the A6 - and perhaps more pressingly, the Metroshuttle has been completely withdrawn.

The first is a stop on Mount Road just before the junction, where buses then turn right and immediately encounter another stop on Liverpool Road. The distance is barely 50 metres.

I’m not great at measuring distances but there are two stops close together on Glenthorne Avenue, Yeovil. And also a similar situation on Milford Road, Yeovil. These are all on the 51 bus route.

Chapel Road Southbound and Carr Vale Road NE Bound are just over 30m apart according to Google Maps, you can clearly see one from the other on the Streetview Image.

From late October the route is being changes and the service will no longer go down Charlesworth Road. It's not clear if it will still serve Chapel Road or if it will carry on along Villas Road. If the former then these two stops will (in theory) be served one after the other.

The 1a doesn't serve "opp Sutton Hall Road" in the evenings and on Sundays so this is true right now.

Quite a few in Edinburgh less than 75 yards apart. Lady Road Travellodge stop and Cameron Toll the 3,7,8,29,31,37,47 and 62 serve both. London road has 2 stops less then 50 yards from each other served by 1,4,5,19,34

If we allow that stretch, practically all buses to East Surrey Hospital will provide instances of two stops very close together. The hospital is effectively a dead end, and all the buses which serve it get there via Three Arch Road, South Earlswood. They go east along Three Arch Road, past Redhill Football Club and then under a railway bridge to get to the hospital, and then they turn round and go west along Three Arch Road, once again passing under the railway line and past the football ground.

There are stops on both sides of Three Arch Road, which are scarcely more than the width of the road apart. Only a visitor to the football ground is particularly likely to use these stops, but in theory you could board a bus on the north side of the road and buy a ticket to cross the road via the hospital.

In Ashton-in-Makerfield you are able to travel from one stop to another on Wigan Road from the town centre to the library of a distance of around 160m. In a straight line it's probably less than that. In the 1980's the stop outside the library I think was further away but the installation of a bus shelter in recent years gas necessitated the stop being moved slightly.

Down in Hastings, it's roughly 70 metres between the bus stops at Pennine Rise and Chiltern Drive. They are both served by the 20 and 31 (to become the 324 and 331 tomorrow) to the railway station and whilst I haven't got my old Maidstone and District timetables to hand, I believe Pennine Rise was used as a layover point for town services hence the short distance and lack of facilities - it didn't gain a shelter until 2015.
