Trivia; Busiest single-track station?

Heathrow T4 station on the Underground is on a single track loop, with trains every 10 minutes. Well over 2m people a year use it

So Dyce and even Castleford don't count by that definition.

I don't think Moorfields, a station with multiple lines, one of which is a single track, qualifies, but we could do with a little more clarification in the opening post. If Moorfields was to count, you could say Bank, which would be daft.

It appears that the Heathrow T4 stations are separate. If so, then the LU station would count.

I know its part of a larger station and I know its one directional but the most passengers and most trains on a single platformed station is most likely to be Liverpool Lime Street low level.

Having worked Ormskirk and Kirkby mentioned earlier they are 2 of the busiest Merseyrail stations, absolutely mental sometimes with queues out the door all day!

Though whether they should be classed as single platform stations is open to interpretation. I'd argue that they have two platforms from an operational point of view. The same would apply to Penrhyn in Cornwall in my opinion.

London Underground wise Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 is the busiest single platformed station but Mill Hill East is the busiest single platformed tube station that has trains that go both ways on the one platform.

At well over a million has anyone mentioned Cardiff Bay yet.

One of two as there is also Chesham, Kensington Olympia also only has one London Undeground platform although it also has National Rail platforms.

AFAIK the busiest single track station according to ORR station usage is Chafford Hundred which depending on how busy is defined must be on one of the busiest single track sections which is oddly ignored when it comes to plans for doubling

In terms of trains , or route capacity utilisation indicator (CUI) , the single line at the top of the Rhondda Valley has to be up there , was about 96% in use in a standard hour for 2 tph each way. (as I recall from previous studies) - Treherbert - Ystrad Rhondda - Porth.

I guess Glossop and Hadfield must be up there with the busy single line stations. Glossop I believe is the second busiest station in Derbyshire after Derby station its self. 876 thousand for Glossop down from a 956 thousand a few years ago.

All the stations on the branch are double track. Only a section of less than a mile between Westerton and Bearsden is single.

Looking at Google, it's not just the section to Bearsden, it's also between Hillfoot and Milngavie. But you're right that it's double through and between both stations.

Newmarket doesn't weigh in too badly - c. 300k entries and exits.

The Avocet line (Exmouth branch) must do quite well too - Single track from Exmouth Junction to Exmouth with only one passing loop at Topsham - No extra paths available most of the day M-S and Exmouth itself is close to breaking the million (entries and exits) barrier. (You also have Digby & Sowton which is up there too)
