An odd thought came through my head today when I had to use one of these bloody things but it is this:-

Which bus route passes through the most boroughs in London?

Ive tried to have a looksy but cant really fathom it but Im guessing something that has to cross the river would pass through at least 3 like the 196 does ( I think)

I'd like to nominate the 341 - it's meandering route cuts across no less than eight authority areas:

Waterloo to Waterloo Bridge: Lambeth
Lancaster Place, Aldwych, Strand: Westminster
Fleet Street, Fetter Lane, Holborn Circus, Holborn: City of London
Grays Inn Road, Theobalds Road, Rosebery Avenue (to Mt Pleasant): Camden
Mount Pleasant to Newington Green: Islington
Newington Green to Green Lanes/Rowley Gardens: Hackney
Rowley Gardens to Leeside Road: Haringey
Leeside Road to Angel Road: Enfield

Day routes maybe X26 West Croydon - East Croydon - Wallington Green - Carshalton - Sutton - Cheam - North Cheam - Worcester Park - New Malden - Kingston - Teddington - Hatton Cross - Heathrow Airport Central

Which bus route passes through the most boroughs in London?)

A good starting point would be to look at the longest bus route.

I believe that the longest daytime route is the X26 (Heathrow Airport to Croydon). This passes through the London Boroughs of Hillingdon, Hounslow, Richmond, Kingston, Sutton and Croydon. (And possibly clipping the edge of Merton.) So six or seven boroughs.

The 141 manages six: Southwark, City, Islington, Hackney, Haringey, Enfield.

Ditto the 176: Westminster, Camden, Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Bromley.

243: Lambeth, Westminster, Camden, Islington, Hackney, Haringey.

It's worth concentrating on Inner London routes where there is a higher density of local authority areas, coupled with services with slightly odd routeings: for instance, the very short 521 passes through five areas: Lambeth (Waterloo), Westminster (Aldwych), Camden (Procter St/Hi Ho), the City and back into Southwark (London Bridge).

Maybe the 232 is a good one for a non-central route? Brent, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey?

25: another route passing through six boroughs . Redbridge, Newham, Tower Hamlets, City, Camden, Westminster.

Routes around the Crystal Palace area might be worth looking at closely: five boroughs almost join up near there, possibly providing the greatest opportunities for passing through the greatest number of boroughs in the shortest distance
