I, along with my wife, was booked on the Push-Pull railtour. When it was cancelled, I decided we were going to recreate the journey using internal ScotRail services. Hence:

Saturday. Stirling to Inverness Ist class in an HST. Quiet and comfortable, plenty of legroom. Catering - sandwiches from M&S so very good. Arrived only slightly late due to trespassers between Dunkeld and Pitlochry.

Spent Saturday night in Inverness. I can recommend The Den at Johnny Foxes on the banks of the River Ness for dinner and a wee dram...

Sunday. Inverness to Aberdeen on a clapped out 4 car 158. Noisy, cramped and for the whole journey stinking of exhaust fumes. Catering courtesy of M&S so one of the few good points about the journey - scenery is very nice, though.

Aberdeen to Stirling on a 170. Far nicer than the 158 with much reduced noise levels. Bombing through Strathearn at 90-100 mph was remarkably smooth. Would have preferred an HST, though.
