Trip to Toton

Hi everyone,

A friend and I were planning on going up to Barrow Hill Roundhouse for the day, then calling in at Toton to see what's on the depot on the way back. However, I work weekends and Barrow Hill is only open weekends, so that's out of the equation.

Does anybody have any trip ideas that are close-ish to Toton instead of Barrow Hill, because I doubt we could spend a whole day watching the depot?

Derby, Brush at Loughborough and Leicester all give opportunities to see stuff 'on shed' and passing through.

Unless you're taking the car it would probably take most of the day to walk to Toton AHAHA don't think it's particularly close to any station so you need additional transport.

I was planning on doing Toton in September but the tickets from Newhaven are very high otherwise I'd need to go after 9

It's a reasonable walk, only about 15 - 20 minutes or so, from Toton Lane tram stop, and the walk takes you out onto the hill on the east side that has a good view of just about the entire depot.

I will be driving. I went before with my Grandad and I remember us parking next to a scrap yard, so I'll try that.
I'll see if there's any specials running about, too, so I can go out and see them.
I'll do some more research into Derby and Loughborough, might even get the train into Derby so I can pass the RTC.

I'm looking at getting the train from Spondon into Derby because it's cheaper. I could pop into Loughborough afterwards, but is there much to see at the works at the moment?
