Hi all, I am planning a trip to Crewe with my (also) train mad son and particulary interested in catching some 86,90 and 92 workings. Will be on station from 9.30 til 17.00 and I know a lot of freight goes on the avoiders, but is there a particular day from Mon to Sat where you might see more freight or are they all similar. Just need to know so I can book some (cheap !) advance tickets. Many thanks !

I would expect the railway enthuisiastic staff members will know, I might ask one on my next visit for you. Not sure if they will though, the one I would expect to know has left.

Might be better at Staffordfor those classes? Be a fingers crossed jobs to get daytime 86s, (eg there was a pair today but not yesterday!) should definitely get four or five Freightliner 90s and a couple of 92s.

Certainly catch the 92s further down the Manchester line from Crewe at Sandbach and Holmes Chapel as well. Mainly because most freight trains, iirc, go either around or under Crewe station. ;)

Freightmaster has all the workings for Crewe AFAIK. If you ask someone nicely who is a member (or has the dodgy free link), they might be able to help you! ;)

You miss a bit of freight at Crewe given the fly under that goes from the back of Platform 12 area and Manchester Line.

Stafford maybe a better option?
