I doubt motorway collectors would read this but a scalelectrix set soynds like the car version of a model railway. I know it is a racetrack instead but it is all I can think of. The site called Pathetic Motorways has a good section on the history and planned developments of motorways.

Minic Motorways is not the same as Scalelectrix - it is to 4mm scale and therefore much smaller that Scalelectrix. It was introduced in 1960 but was dropped by Triang Hornby around 1970. It was designed to be compatible with Triang railways, including level crossings and even a ramp leading to a car transporter wagon. I have seen some 'Vintage' layouts with quite extensive installations. I'm sure there must be a society around for this system!
