On the slow lines between Nuneaton and Stafford, what are the max speed limits? Sometimes on LM the train trundles along, or so it seems.

You are quite right.
The slow lines Nuneaton-Amington (just before Tamworth), and the stretch west of Shugborough Tunnel, are the old 75mph. Only 60mph at Atherstone. The track/OHLE has not been upgraded.
Between Amington and Armitage (the new 4-track section), the speed limit is 110/125mph, like the fast lines.
Armitage-Colwich is the old 110mph (used to be the down fast), while Colwich-Armitage (up slow) is 75mph.

The WCRM programme forgot to upgrade these bits (also Northampton-Rugby, and Stafford-Crewe-Winsford).
Norton Bridge-Crewe has just gone up from 75mph to 100mph, and Stafford-Norton Bridge will follow when the new line is finished.
