Travelling from Victoria to Brighton - Anytime day return

Sorry if this has been asked before but probably quicker to ask again ..

I am planning to travel to Brighton early one weekday morning and intend buying an Anytime day return which I believe costs around £34.

Does this entitle me to travel on any train out of Victoria and back again including the limited stop GX train?

I don't want to get caught out in an argument if I'm told my ticket is invalid and I can only travel on a Southern-branded train.

It does indeed allow you to travel on any train (Gatwick Express or Southern) as it is "Any Permitted". You can also use it to go back to London Bridge, Blackfriars (or City Thameslink) or many other stations on any train.

Indeed, and this is also the case for "Thameslink only" routed tickets, provided they are valid route-wise, but that one is not infrequently contested by the often unknowledgeable and tortious staff on GX and Southern, so it's up to you whether that saving is worth the potential hassle for you!

There are numerous tickets that entitle you to travel on any train, but you are correct that this ticket includes a premium element which will ensure you avoid a potential argument with GTR staff if using their GX services.
