It would appear that it's not possible to buy a ticket to a Boundary Zone from a station that is in a lower numbered zone. So, you can't buy a ticket from a Zone 1 station to any Boundary Zone. It's possible to buy a ticket from a station in Zone 3 to Boundary Zone 2, but not to Boundary Zones 4 - 6.

Somebody with Redhill - Zones 4 - 6 Travelcard needed an "extension" from London Terminals. I issued a single to Norwood Junction as there was no fare available to Boundary Zone 4.

So you can buy tickets from stations outside London within a certain catchement to or from any Boundary Zone. You can buy tickets from a station in London to a lower numbered Boundary Zone, but not to a higher numbered Boundary Zone :!: Another area which is just as much fun is tickets to and from the Underground Zones.

Well even if it were possible shouldn't the extension have been issued to Boundary Zone 3? Boundary Zones are the 'outer' boundary and their travelcard already covered Zone 4.
