My Super Off-Peak Travelcard Zones 1-6 (issued from Birmingham) was rejected by Chingford ticket barriers (in Zone 5). Every other barrier I had passed through on that day worked without any rejections.

The number on the barrier was 126.

Could anyone explain why this happened?

(The solution on the day: The London Overground staff took my ticket for about 10 seconds then let me through. No words were exchanged.)

Probably a poorly programmed gateline.

Happens quite frequently.

126 = TOC ticket origin is not valid for entry here

Not unusual for an unusual ticket to give an error, barrier logic seems pretty restricted. Manchester Oxford Road gave me 125 for an e-ticket from Warrington recently.

I have had travelcards rejected on a few occasions by the barriers at the South Bank entrance to Blackfriars. Again it worked at the other barriers I passed through on the same day.

London Overground can be a law unto themselves - keeps you on your toes: I've had (in-boundary) London Overground barriers open the gate and RETAIN my (out-boundary) day travelcard!
