Travelcard from Reading, validity on SWR ?

I'm dispatching my kids to London from Reading on Friday morning, and in order to reduce the risk of them getting lost and missing their rendezvous, it's simpler for them to get a direct train to Waterloo. They'll then be travelling around a bit in London and finishing the day at Chislehurst.

I think a one day off peak Travelcard should be the best ticket, but I can't get any journey planner to show me a route via SWR using a Travelcard, I can only see GWR/tube journeys. I also realise there's a restriction of not arriving in London before 10am, which is OK.

Can someone confirm that an off peak Travelcard would be valid on SWR for a Reading to Waterloo journey ?

Not sure how to go into detail, but put simply, it would be fine to travel with SWR into London Waterloo, but is alot slower than GWR service direct into Paddington.
With the arrive at London after 10am restriction, the earliest train you could get out of Reading would be the 08:42 service from Reading, which gets into London Waterloo at 10:04am.

It's fine because it doesn't have a route/operator restriction.
The reason you can't get it to show in a journey is because it takes 3x as long, than to Paddington.
Therefore Paddington will always be the quickest route.

You could put via Bracknel or Clapham Junction in a journey planner and it will give you the option you want (although it is unnecessary as it is valid to go that way anyway).
